The future of Monkey Island
Anyone who calls himself a lover of video games has to at least have heard the title of this adventure game. Monkey Island, the famous Lucas Arts game series, has marked a before and after in the history of videogames and in particular of adventure games.
Its first edition "The Secret of Monkey Island", released in 1990, was a total success and from there they stopped not releasing new versions, until today. In the second game "Monkey Island II: LeChuck's Revenge", this adventure game ended consolidated into the world of video games. Ron Gilbert, creator of the series, unveiled what will be the future of Monkey Island.
Bad news:
The mind behind Guybrush Threepwood, pirate of the Caribbean protagonist of this adventure, says he would love to get a new version of Monkey Island, yet the game rights belong to Lucas Arts and he is no longer with them. Even said that if he had much money as possible to buy the license, do not really believe that Lucas Arts should ever sell it.
While there have released new versions of this game, none is under control and creativity of the genius of graphic adventures, which, beyond statements, not pessimistic about the genre, and hopes that this type of game remains in force for a long time.
It claims that adventure games are a genre that attracts a large audience, and so are more present than ever. According to Gilbert, are video games that appeal to their history, their ability to move from puzzle solving, and be involved as a player in a way that very few genera do.
Latest from Monkey Island:
Launched in 2010 by Telltale Games, Tales of Monkey Island is the last thing we have known pirate Guybrush. The story was released into chapters that were put on sale on different days.
This game launched in June 2010, was available for several platforms, including PC, PS3 and even Nintendo Wii. All is not lost in the world of graphic adventures. While it is unlikely that we will see Ron Gilbert and Guybrush together, that does not prevent further releasing great games in the genre.
