[Review] [PC]

Enigma Games' strategy game Warriors puts you in control of a team of four warriors who you pit against a range of other teams in tournament style play. Can you lead your team to victory? For what it is, which is a PC port of a mobile phone game, it's not a bad game overall. In a world of over-the-top games sometimes it is nice to kick back with a small quick game that loads in a matter of seconds. This is such a game although I would not exactly call it quick. As this game was originally developed for the mobile gaming market I have taken that into account when rating it.

The story runs like this, for centuries, a civilization on Bors has collided on a quest for dominance and prestige in the Annual Tournament of Gods. Create your team from over 136 fighters (from 12 classes) including 15 hidden clans. This game features an innovative turn-based 4 vs 4 style combat system with 3 levels of difficulty.

Visuals/Graphics: 75%
If you play in Windowed mode, like I do, then the game looks good. Taking into account that this game was made to fit on a mobile and then adapted to the PC the graphics are good. Nothing spectacular and flashy but adequate. The game looks better than it probably would on my mobile but then again my mobile is nearly useless at this point. The website says "Vivid characters and immersive special effects bring each battle to life..." which is a stretch of the imagination, a big stretch. Being that it was a PocketPC and mobile game the graphics are of that calibre, nothing immersive about it. The fighters have two positions, idle and attacking and are not what I would call vivid and the effects are limited.

Sound/Music: 75%
Well there is music which is pretty good and there are sound effects which are pretty good but remember by pretty good I mean 'pretty good on a mobile.' The music is actually just a collection of 8-10 second loops, but it all sounds appropriate enough for the game. The attack effects vary by class though some classes are the same. There is no chatter, no voices, no cries of agony when a character dies, though there is a cool bell that tolls when a character is killed. Bong!

Controls: 100%
The game can be played one of two ways. You can move the mouse to choose your action and target or you can use the arrow keys to choose them. That's it, nothing more to the game really. The controls are simple and quick although perhaps too simple. But again, this was originally made to be played on the keypad of a mobile or PocketPC.

Gameplay: 60%
Honestly the game is somewhat simplistic. I breezed through the first two levels of the game in a matter of a couple hours. It would have been faster but the game is what I would term 'slow going' at times. You choose, hit (or miss), wait, the computer hits (or misses), wait, rinse, repeat. There is no save option, so if you are interrupted in the middle of a tournament you must start that particular tournament over again the next time you play. You are given a code at the end of the tournament though which is used to unlock new teams which you can then use in the tournaments.

Overall: 77%
The game is good, not really addctive or exciting. It is definitely not worth the $13 price (which should be 13 hours of gameplay to me). This game is better suited to the mobile phone and browser interface markets than the downloadable PC market. There is no evidence of the storyline in the game and in fact the game gets rather monotonous rather quickly. There is little to keep one interested and the game falls far short of what the company states on the website. Maybe if they lowered the price to $5-7 it might be worth it.
