[PC] [Review]

Yes a day late but at least it's here. Things have been quite busy of late which is no excuse.

Today's Flash Game of the Week is a game I have been playing off and on when I have some time to kill. It's a fun little game called Fancy Pants Adventures and it's good fun.

The graphic stylings of the creator are nice and simple but do not detract from the overall game itself. It's an old school platform game in feel and controls. You control Fancy Pants and need to guide him through the dangerous and strange world he lives in.

When Fancy Pants gets moving he really gets moving and at times he's a little hard to control due to what feels like slightly lower gravity than you're used to dealing with. But after some time you'll get the hang of his hang-time and be able to work it all out I'm sure.

The sound in the game is fairly rich for such a flash game. The music is unobtrusive and rather suits the platform genre well. Everything you do that needs a sound has one. Jump on a spring platform and it sproings. Open a door and it creaks.

Like all good platformers it's full of hidden areas, power-ups and of course...bad guys. But be careful of the angry spiders and the gun-toting mouse-man. Don't forget to look for the power-ups (like the wall jump, etc...) and keep collecting the spirals and everything you can find. In addition there are also hidden trophies you can find and then check out in the menu world Trophy room. A nice little touch I thought.

In the Do Not Enter room on the Menu World is a silly little thing that will open a new window to Armorgames.com. where you'll find a virtual ton of other games to wile away the time. I've been there several times and I rather like some of the games they have in their selection. Of course if you have a popup blocker engaged when you hit the sword you'll just get a warning, or nothing at all. Of course now that I've told you about it you can just go directly to the site and not worry about this room at all.

The graphics remind me of Dr. Seuss and I kept thinking One Fish, Two Fish, Red fish, Blue Fish as I was playing the game. The range of motion incorporated into Fancy Pants himself is quite good and he moves fluidly through his environment. The other thing I really liked is the fact that the game resizes with the window so you're not limited to a tiny little playing area, you can full screen the browser and the game will follow right along. And the brief death sequence was a nice touch as well.

One of the things I really liked about the game is that there's a Menu World. No simple button clicking here. You want to change some options then you need to use Fancy Pants to do it. Quite a novel approach I thought and well executed as well.

You've got three lives to get Fancy Pants through three levels. But don't fret friends, the levels are nice and big and you'll find plenty of enjoyment in the game.

It's an excellent effort by its creator Brad Borne and I hope he continues to make entertaining games in this vein.

Overall Score: 95% (Just a bit limited on levels.)
