[Review] [PC]

These articles aren't meant to always be the latest and greatest in Flash Gaming. They are aimed to perhaps remind you of some games you might have forgotten or show you some games that might have slipped by or to tell you about the games we have been playing lately here at Generation: Gamerz. With the enormous amount of flash games that are available it's difficult to keep up with everything that is available, but it gives us a broad enough scope to show you something every week.

This week I look at Foon. In the Farcade you'll find 13 games currently and many of them are good fun and remind me of the Lemmings series That is if the creators of Lemmings had a perverse sense of humor that they showed off in the games.

Hapland, the first in a series of three games so far, is very much like Lemmings with a twist. Instead of being concerned about saving all the people in the game you need to utilize them in order to achieve a goal. The goal in this case is to light two torches in order to open a portal. Sounds easy enough right?

Wrong. Take Lemmings, and add in a Rube Goldberg machine and some cool ways to accidentally kill the people you need to use and you've got a clearer picture of what's going on here. But one wrong move and you might impale, blow up or otherwise kill off a crucial person in the chain of events that must take place to succeed. The graphics are simple, but I like them. The game has its own look that fits well with the theme of the games. There's no music which is just fine with me because the sound effects in the game are all you need. The main component here is the 'cannon' which shoots rocks, grenades and a package that all have a specific purpose and need to be used wisely.

I found myself laughing out loud when I accidentally killed off someone and had to restart from scratch. It's a lot of trial and error but if you like a good puzzle this game is worth the time.

Score: 90% (Simple yet fun. Good graphics for what it is. Enjoyable and creative)

In Hapland 2 your stick figure management is again put to the test albeit in a more complex manner. Again there are torches to be lit and a portal to be opened and every move counts. It's potentially hours of fun and the blood splatters from the destroyed Stick People are a nice touch as in the first Hapland. The graphics are in the same vein giving not so much continuity to the game but at least tying them all together as being in the same series.

Score: 90% (Simple and fun. Enjoyable and creative. Time-consuming, which I like)

In Hapland 3 there's more of the same with a completely different set of mechanisms and Stick People, but the goal remains the same. No torches in this one but in their place is a magic potion that must be brewed to do what you need to do, open that damned portal!

Score: 90% (Still extremely creative, interesting and fun)

So if you're looking for something to do at work or while the girlfriend gets her 'face on' then stop in for a quick visit to Hapland and make your way to being the Grand Saviour, or something.

Foon also boasts ten other games that I haven't checked in on yet aside from Escape from Rhetundo Island which boasts multiple levels of trying to get your Stick People to safety and off the island. More in the vein of the classic Lemmings games than the Hapland series but still a lot of interesting and challenging game play.

I like the games for both their simplicity and their creativity. I can only imagine how much time it took to come up with all the mechanisms and think out the sequence of events necessary for completion of the levels. I look forward to checking out the other games on the site and hope he continues creating more of them. Plus I especially like his sense of humor that shows up in the instructions as well as other places on the site.

Keep Flashing!
