[Review] [Wii] [PC]

Well it all comes down to the wire, the right ingredients forming the perfect mixture of light humour, raunchy humor, campy humor and physical humor is pretty awesome.  Meanwhile, stuffing all that inside an interactive comedy special that would be much more preferred than some late night TV show becomes fairly cool.  To top it all off, if you play this game you are automatically considered  “attractive” because if you play the latest episode of Strong Bad's Cool Game For Attractive People you must be; for only attractive people play this, right?  I knew you would agree.  So how does my review copy compare to the crisp smooth bills of the Strong Badian currency that were slipped in with it?  Read on to find out how well the recipe listed above ended up blending together.

Graphics – 85% (Homestar Runner? Spot On)
09-18-08 20_24_55 These graphics are dead on in the animation department.  Of course, they've been making this animation for years so how hard could it be to whip up some of the classics for the development crew to stick into this game?  A few cardboard shrubs and some glitter and “Bam!” it is an official episode.  Only downside was getting the graphics to run.  The game kept crashing in Windows Vista and when I loaded it onto my Windows XP laptop I found up there was something buggy with the video drivers that I run that caused the game to not load due to graphics.  A quick fix with some original non-third part drivers and I was in great shape.  Of course those graphics are a different type than I was really talking about, but it is worth a note if you run into the same problem as my ATI parts.

Sound – 80% (Cheesy, Of Course)
Who doesn't love the silky smooth voice of our favorite antagonist gone protagonist?  Accompanied by the low budget campy film sound effects really ties in well for the humor that well expected.  The 8-bit sounding music really brings back memories of the classics.  Seriously, you cannot expect much for sound at this moment, but wait until Strong Bad gets a band in the next one.

Gameplay – 85% (Puzzling Humor)
What a puzzling world that I had entered.  Not only did I have to find items in a pixel hunt style, but I had to use the objects I found to force actions to allow me to progre09-18-08 21_12_27ss.  It was tough, but I managed to get myself halfway through the game before I resorted to cheating.  Even then, I did not feel like I lost any value of the game.  The whole game is just one giant episode of Homestar Runner, featuring Strong Bad.  There are also added features of the game to spice things up such as; dressing up and taking photos in front of exotic scenes, searching for souvenir flags or thinking of ways to get teen cheerleaders beaten up. Everything from the last episode is wrapped up and moved to a new scenario; everyone loves new content.

Cut Scenes – 70% (What, No Skip?)
I find myself bored with cut scenes that I could not skip past.  This is aggravated tenfold when I have already seen the scene unfold a few times.  I began to wonder if this was done on purpose by the telltale games crew just to punish me for my stupidity to click something twice.  I realize that seeing the scene at least once may provide a vital clue, but more than that is just pure torture.  Next time I need a skip button.

Controls/ Interface – 80% (Point, Click, Repeat)
The crew over at telltale games have made the interface fairly easy for the game.  This is because they probably know that you are just plain s....smart, yeah, smart and are going to busy busing solving the puzzles that make up this game.  Whether it is trying to figure out how to get the cast to help you escape your house or how to befriend/intimidate the other countries into joining with you it is all a point and click style.  I say it cannot get any easier, but I know Strong Bad would disagree; somebody could always do it for him instead.

Summary – 80% (Giggle Factory)
09-18-08 19_54_44 Yeah, It gets a fairly good score.  The best part is that I was entertained the entire time.  Seriously, I was in Giggle City, population me.  Interactive episodes were a pretty great idea and for someone that has been missing out on the real episode, I am ready to visit the Homestar site quite often.  I would say that telltale games really did a great job and that everything in the content was intact.  I am still waiting for a skip feature, unless they really are trying to torture me (I suspect they are).
