As my erstwhile colleague pointed out, my prognostication skills are improving. Good for me, bad for everyone else it seems. Perhaps this is why EA is doing so much PR work on their upcoming games these days. In the last 2 days, they have dropped screenshots and videos on many new titles including today's screenshots of Need for Speed™ Carbon. Yesterday was:
- FIFA 07
- Need for Speed™ Carbon
- NBA Street v4
- FIFA Manager 07
- Superman Returns
- Fight Night Round 3
Maybe it's their way of saying "We need to make sure people buy these games since the ads are the new source of revenue for the company." While I don't really think they want to spy on gamers, because honestly we (gamers) can't possibly be that interesting, I do think they are doing it. Funny how the paper was INSIDE the box so that you had to purchase the game before finding out about it.
Wait a second...I'm getting a vision of the future. I see a class-action lawsuit coming against EA for deceptive business practices because they failed to alert potential customers to the spyware capabilities of the games before purchase. Remember, you heard it here first. With the nature of video games and software some retailers will not accept opened packaging except for in-store credit. A conspiracy theory idea has just struck me, but I'll refrain from saying that it's a conspiracy between retailers and EA on this one so they all make money with one hand while stealing it with the other. Oh wait, I just said it didn't I?
Where was I? Oh right, the screenshots... Due to the serious (or as close as I get at times) nature of this post I have decided to post the screen shots of Need For Speed Carbon separately.
I'll wager it's got Ad/Spyware in it also...
