This is the second part of Generation Gamerz's recent interview with Andrew and Dave from Gamelife.
You can read the first part of the interview here.
CD: How were you first approached by MTV? Any talks on expanding your role on the G-Hole or possibly moving the show to television? DC: I'd rather shoot myself before going on MTV as a full blown program. AR: We were first approached by MTV before E3. They e-mailed us saying that they were interested in doing a deal. So, after E3, we got in touch, and we got on the G-Hole. But we don't have any talks right now about expanding on the G-Hole or becoming a separate program, although I would like to have a program, even if it is on MTV at 4:00 in the morning...instead of the music videos they don't play.
DC: If the money was right. I might sacrifice my soul to MTV. AR: It would be, though.
SG: Wasn't such a great experience or are they just a pompous as they sometimes look on TV? DC: For me, it’s just my general feeling that MTV shouldn't call themselves MTV when they hardly ever have music videos on. AR: Alex Porter, our producer for MTV is a great guy to work with for this segment. DC: But being on the G-Hole has been good. AR: We've done two so far and we are working on a third one. Porter has really been lenient and let us do what we want, and they just stick the segment into their show, which is really nice because most places would edit the clip to bits, but the G-Hole does not and we really appreciate that.
CD: You both mentioned being in school. Have you thought about pursuing careers in video game production? If not, what do you plan to study? DC: I probably couldn't focus on videogame production, so I'm just gonna be a graphic designer, and a webpage designer. I could get into the business if someone needed me to do voiceovers. AR: I plan to go into the TV/radio/film production, which could mean something to do with video games. Anything is possible, although I'm not going to be looking specifically for a job with video games. But I do love filming, editing, and producing things...anything that has to do with TV production, rather.
SG: Really? How do you find the time to do it all when the site says you're on crack - I mean playing WoW? Seriously, how much time have you put into WoW lately, and how sleep deprived are you? DC: Just for the record, I think WoW is the worst game in the history of mankind. AR: *laughs Well, to tell you the truth, over the summer I actually quit playing WoW. Yeah, I beat crack. I uninstalled it from my computer because it was taking way too much space up from GameLife production. So we really need to edit that section of the website. DC: I'll get right on it, boss. SG: I haven't seen WoW since I beta tested it, but I wasn't so impressed with it either, Dave. AR: Since the beta, I've heard it's come a looooong way. DC: I've never been a fan of WarCraft, but I heard WoW is devastating to people's social life, so I try to stay away. AR: Yeah, but you can't really judge a game if you haven't played it.
SG: Did you all hear about the Amsterdam Video Game Rehabilitation Centers? Anyone thinking of checking in? I'm thinking it would be cooler than the Chinese one, Amsterdam has a ton of other 'vices' available to replace the video game habit. DC: I never heard about that 'til right now. AR: *laughs I don't think any of us are that addicted to video games. CD: Apparently, Andrew is still in the first stage: denial. AR: *laughs I saw that article already and I knew about that Rehabilitation Center.
CD: Aside from WoW, what is your favorite, recent game? AR: Guitar Hero. CD: Dave, how about you? DC: Guitar Hero by far, 'cause I'd rather be in the music business. AR: I just love the fact that the songs are classics. CD: Yes, Guitar Hero is one of my favorites. Have you seen the track list for GH2? If so, what song are you looking forward to playing? AR: Sweet Child O' Mine. Or Free Bird. Or Jessica. DC: Yawn. Too common. AR: *laughs CD: Okay, Mr. Musician, what's your favorite? DC: I'm looking forward to playing Anthrax, Motley Crue, STP, Van Halen...just all the tracks in the game I'm loving so far. SG: Ah yes, tapping the inner rock star in all of us…well, all of us that have it, which isn't me. Which game are you each looking forward to the most and on which system (aside from GH2)? AR: God of War 2 for the PS2. Yeah, there's all of these Wii and PS3 games coming out, but I'm definitely not as excited for that as GoW 2. DC: I'm looking forward to Smackdown '07 for 360 and PSP...yeah, I buy two copies...Mortal Kombat Armageddon, the Family Guy Game. I haven't gone to Wii or PS3 excitement, yet. AR: I am excited for games like Zelda: Twilight Princess and stuff.
CD: What is your gaming guilty pleasure? Are either of you Barbie Horse Adventures junkies? DC: Um...I don't currently have one. The last guilty pleasure of mine was on a PSX demo disc playing Elmo’s Number Adventure or something. AR: *laughs You love the X-Files and Matrix games...anything based off of a TV show. DC: Yeah, I'm a TV game fanatic. SG: Matrix was film, Andrew, and Enter the Matrix was crap I thought. AR: Yes, but Dave has bought it like two times, I believe. DC: 24, X-files, Matrix PON are actually some of my all time favs. People just diss 'em cause they are based off of TV. AR: *laughs* Well, I don't really have a guilty pleasure... DC: LIAR! AR: ...unless Dave can think of one. DC: I looked through your NES and games and saw a Sesame Street game. AR: But I don't play it. That was for when I was little, when I had the chicken pox...after I played Super Mario Brothers 3. SG: Hey don't knock Sesame Street, man. Big Bird would be awesome in a fighting game, and Snuffleupagus would be able to cloak so no one could see him. AR: *laughs*
CD: Okay, last questions Did you have any hopes for GameLife when you started, or was it simply a fun way to pass the time? Do you now? AR: To be honest, I did not have much hope for GameLife. I thought it would be a dud and nobody would notice us. Now, we are in a completely different situation. I think that we are just going to get better and better at this and improve the quality. Who knows? There might even be advertisements during the show in the future. CD: What about you, Dave? What did you think when you first started with GameLife? DC: Honestly, I did not think it was going anywhere besides doing it for fun. And that still stands with me today. I could care less if we only have 100 viewers. I'd still do it, 'cause I don't to it to make other people happy. I do it to make myself happy. SG: That's similar to what we think about Generation: Gamerz, Dave.
