Last year, we published our gamer shopping guide, entitled "The Five Days of Gamer Xmas". This year we dropped the fancy name in lieu of something a bit more practical. We also added our two newest writers, FarmerDave and TheGirl to the mix. Sorry, but SuperGuido is in the midst of making the long trip home for Christmas, so he'll be sitting this one out.
Regardless, with just eight shopping days left until Christmas, its time to get started with our five part, last minute shopping guide.
Ludwig Modular Drum Throne with Back
CigDangle's Pick
It may seem like an odd gift idea, particularly for a shopping guide on Generation: Gamerz, but if you bought Rock Band for a loved one, than this is a necessity. Obviously, unless the Rock Band drummer you know has decided to imitate Tito Puente playing the bongos, they will need a place to sit. Unless you have a comfortable ottoman lying around, they will go without.
Sure they could use the old folding chair in the closet, or maybe a kitchen chair, but those will just cheapen the experience. What they really need is a drum stool - better yet, a throne.
Ludwig makes this awesome throne, with a seat like a motorcycle and a back, for the support old gamers like me need. With this, I easily could settle into a four hour set, much to my neighbor's dismay.
Microsoft Flight Simulator X Acceleration Expansion
TurboGoat's Pick
I raved last year about the quantum leap Microsoft Flight Simulator made with MSFS X, and I recently reviewed some peripherals from Saitek that make the experience much more engrossing. Now its time to “push the outside of the envelope” and really see what MSFS X can do after a year of user shakedowns.
The Acceleration Pack features 20 new single-player missions including the F/A-18 Hornet, AugustaWestland Helicopter (get used to this machine it’s the new Marine One that will carry the President around), and the modified P-51D Mustang that is used at the Reno Air Races. The pack also features a multi-player mode for racing which truly turns your “simulator” into an arcade game.
Movie Magic Screenwriter Version 6.0
TheGirl's Pick
Probably one of the best scriptwriting computer software systems out there. It formats your work into not only movie screenplay, but TV, theatrical play, novel, and comic book form.
There is just so much a writer can do with it, it’s unbelievable. And the company has add on programs like Storyview and Writer’s Dreamkit that will help round out any idea a writer can imagine.
Bluetooth Virtual Laser Keyboard
FarmerDave's Pick
I really want this keyboard for Christmas because of its cool factor - not because I need a new keyboard. I mean how cool would it be to just be pounding on the desk when writing an email or playing your latest game.
The neat thing about this futuristic keyboard? The soft red glow of the keyboard reminds me of HAL from “2001: A Space Odyssey”.
“I’m sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can’t do that.”
