[OpEd] [PS3]

I decided to take some time and cruise around eBay today to see what there was to see in the world of gaming. First off I came across nutjob or genius, Zothunder who is selling a PS3, Wii and 27 games and offering to personally dress up like Santa Claus and deliver the stuff to you. Ok so that's actually a value-added service to the package if you have a 10-year old child you are buying the stuff for and are LOADED because the shipping alone is set at $5000. The Buy now price is ONE MILLION DOLLARS (dips hat to Dr. Evil). Surprisingly the guy has a feedback rating of 99.4% with 177 pieces of feedback, so he's somewhat legit. It's a creative way to pay off some college loans I'll admit, but overall it makes me sick that he is attempting to make such high profits off other people's happiness. Not to mention he is one of the reasons several people did not get consoles at release time.

Then there is wilsonknku who only has 21 feedbacks with 100% rating, but not exactly what I would call a proven seller. His auction is no more bizarre or convoluted than the others.

Apparently you are bidding on:
5 60GB PS3
1 20GB PS3
All for $14,000.00

But if you end up paying over $12,000 for the package you will get 6 Wii and 6 TMX Free.

Yes, that's 6 free TMX Tickle Me Elmos and 6 Nintendo Wiis. I'm not even sure what someone would do with all that unless you have six nieces and nephews who are a mix between TurboGoat, Cigdangle and Myself. Of course *I* don't want the damn Elmos... This guy is another example of why you and I did not get a PS3 or Wii at release.

After that we have edenart who has apparently asphyxiated himself with the LA smog and killed off much of his brain while standing in line for all the stuff in the auction because his Buy Now Price is set at $10,000,000. Perhaps he was hit in the head by that metal box that the Top Secret TMX Elmo comes in because I can't even imagine why someone would put that type of price on it unless they don't want anyone to actually buy it and are just showing off how 'cool' they are. This auction does have a few things of interest that make it unique, but have absolutely ZERO value in my eyes, like the wristband from the pre-order line, the shopping bag and the glostick from the party...Honestly, you think THAT adds value to the package? At least he's not selling a dozen of them all at once and has 526 feedback with a 99.4% positive rating.

The next $10,000,000 idiot is sydlepod123 who has 2 pieces of feedback and 100% positive. Honestly I would not buy anything from someone with only 2 feedbacks. The auctioner claims that 70% of the proceeds from the auction will go to charities but there is nothing in the profile about belonging to it. So I would email him with "when I win I will send the 70% to the charities and get a receipt, you will then accept that receipt as proof of payment along with the remaining 30%," because really I just don't believe him. Oh I'm sorry, I forgot to mention the STARTING BID IS $10,000,000.00 ...

Rounding out today's list is an easy choice. There's a moron named stewart9383 who I hope sees this post about himself because he's about the dumbest person on the planet at the moment. His auction consists of one (1) copy of Madden 07 for the Nintendo Wii and the starting bid is $900,000. This is simply a joke right? eBay should ban people like this from ever selling on the site again. He has ZERO feedback and has been a member of eBay for a whole TWO DAYS. Either he's too stupid to figure out how the system actually works or he's just completely ignorant of the fact that there is most likely ZERO demand for the game as there are many more copies of it than the console available. Honestly people, use some common sense.

Ok so I don't want to end on a negative note. So let's end with this guy who has his head on straight and knows how to sell. alaskaswiftsales has not only a good auction but a gimmick to go with it (nicely done sir or madam). See they live in Alaska and..well here's what the auction says I live in Fairbanks, Alaska and the next town over is North Pole, Alaska; really it is called North Pole, Alaska. In the city of North Pole, AK, there is a business called “The Santa Claus House”. It is a gift shop and every day there is a real life Santa and Mrs. Claus. As you see I had a picture with them holding a Nintendo Wii...

and here's the part I rather thought quite clever

if you would like, I can ship them from the North Pole, AK post office...

Yeah, if I had children I would be most assuredly be bidding on this one without a doubt. I would even pay extra for a copy of the photo.
