It is early morning in Seattle, and I am awaking to the realization that I have miles more to walk, and tons more to see.
PAX 2008 is truly something to behold. Granted this is my first PAX, so I have little history of the event to compare it. Regardless, I can tell you the sheer mass of the exhibit hall, coupled with two incredibly large theaters (used for talks, demo, and concerts) can be nearly overwhelming.
The above pictures don't even begin to do the length of the line to get in any justice. The one at left, is a picture of a hall used as one of the queueing areas, no less that 50,000 square feet, that was completely filled before the doors ever opened to the public. Once those doors opened, gamers descended upon the exhibit floor in a manner akin to an attacking horde.
Surprisingly, even with such a large number of people, there were few times when I had trouble navigating the floor through the crowds. Even waiting in line to get some "hands-on" time was shorter than lines at any amusement park I've ever been.
I spent a lot of time with EA and a very cool little company named Outspark on my first day, so watch for plenty of updates coming this week. Overall, my first PAX trip has been a great time, but on my next trip, I'll be sure to pack more comfortable shoes.
