So you want to play the Call of Juarez Demo? So did I. But you're having problems installing the demo? So did I.
You know what I did in the end? I said forget it. After the large download, the totally unnecessary product registration procedure and finally the Securom problem I decided it just wasn't worth all the hassle. What kind of company puts a massive product registration into a game demo and then couples it with one of the worst forms of copy protection on the planet?
Sit Ubisoft, sit. Bad Dog.
Let's face it. It's just a game demo. Why on earth do they think people are going to put in real information in the product registration? Certainly some people actually will do so but they will be the minority. I put in things like "Bitemy@shinymetala$$.com" and for city I put 'peklo' which is Czech for hell. Why act so childish? Because I don't think they need to obtain any information from someone who wants to play a demo of a game that they might buy one day.
As for the SecuRom problems let me just say that taking your laptop from America to Europe will create some issues for you, least of these will be the region locking of your DVD hardware. I've read other articles that have slammed SecuRom for the terrible way the CD copy protection works, or rather fails to. I've also read some articles talking about how to fix it.
The solution? Download some programs and change your system files and uninstall any virtual drive software you have. That's a lot of work just to play a game demo. But if you're still interested in doing so you can look here for a possible solution to your SecuRom drama. But after that you will probably need to get a Registry editing script that will make the necessary changes. You can find that on SecuRom's site here along with some tips on what to do to solve the issue. TweakGuides has a well written article on tweakign the game that you should probably read before you run out and make all the system changes but the best part of it is this line: The Call of Juarez demo uses the SecuROM copy protection system. This might seem odd, but for the most part this shouldn't cause any problems since it is a demo... There is a lot of buzz about this game and the multiple types of copy protection that will be on it when it is fully released. But this is still just the demo.
As for me, I uninstalled it, ran my cleaner program and deleted the demo download. I have better things to do than waste a weekend on trying to get one demo to play.
