[OpEd] [News]

Once more into the breach! I take one final stroll through the perilous territories with Steven Peeler from Soldak Entertainment, makers of Depths of Peril, a genre-bending mix of strategy and isometric RPG.  Is it Isometric? I haven't played it for over a week, I better go check.

[SG]: What's the best thing you have learned about the game industry thus far?

[SP]: Not that this is surprising, but fans are smarter than the industry gives them credit for.  They really do want new and interesting gameplay rather than just another pretty clone that is exactly the same as the last game. (See why I like these guys? -SG)

[SG]: For all those aspiring game developers have you got some words of wisdom? Or can you at least tell me how I can bend someones ear about the stories I have written that I think would make great videogames?

[SP]: My advice to aspiring game developers is to get a job and work in the industry for a few years to learn about the entire process of professionally making video games and then decide if you want to work for a developer, a publisher, or do your own thing.

[SG]: Is it video game or Videogame? We have some money riding on this one at the office.

[SP]: Well I’ll tell you what my answer is if you give me half of the winnings. (Damn foiled again -SG)

[SG]: Wow almost forgot. Are you a gamer, if so what are your favorite game/platform? No fair saying Depths of Peril!

[SP]: Yeah, I’m definitely a gamer.  I haven’t played as much as I would like to lately because I have been so busy with Depths of Peril though.  I play games mostly on the PC and usually play RPGs and strategy games.  That really shouldn’t be surprising for some reason though. [smiles]

Well ok it's time for me to escape from the Soldak clan house and make my way back to the real world. Plus I want to stop bothering them so they can get to work on the expansions and other projects. But be sure I will be keeping an eye on things. Now I have to go find out what happened to that fat mage and the burly fighter chick because they disappeared sometime over the weekend. Thanks again to Steven Peeler and everyone at Soldak for both the excellent interview and the great game.
