Ojom has an arsenal of beautiful women on the job in this remake of the classic television series, Charlie's Angels - Hellfire. Of course you have to use your imagination a little to make them beautiful...
The story in Charlie's Angels - Hellfire is, as always, there's a bad guy that Charlie's Agency has been hired to track down and capture before something seriously bad happens. Hey, the show was formulaic, so the games might as well be also, no?
To start you choose your Angel, each having different abilities just like in the show. One is better with weapons, another is quicker and the third is stronger. All of them also have a Fury meter which lets you pull off a big move flattening enemies in the area.
Charlie's Angels - Hellfire not only harkens back to the days of bell bottoms and polyester (mmmm... Jaclyn Smith), it also harkens back to the days of side-scrolling beat 'em ups like Streets of Rage and Double Dragon. I think they might even have used the engine for these games as the mechanics are very similar.
Even the graphics remind me of the 16-bit days of gaming though the semi-static backgrounds are nice looking and they use parallax scrolling so that you get a good sense of movement.
Your two basic attacks are punch and flying kick. Additionally when you are close to an opponent you can grab onto them and do some serious damage by pummeling them with your knee or fist. Finally each has a Fury move which is basically a super move that allows you to do damage in more directions and from further away.
Button mashing on a phone has never been one of my favorite pastimes but Charlie's Angels - Hellfire is entertaining. As far as beat 'em ups go this is a fine example of the genre. Though my hand did hurt after only a short time playing the game because of the cramped quarters of the keypad.
This game could have been much better if they had allowed you to landscape the game and played that way. Considering it's a side-scroller it would have been a great benefit to the game in that you would have had a larger playing area. Also the game could use some better sounds. At times I wasn't sure who was yelling as even the Angels sounded like Bad Dudes grunting and yelling. When you take damage your Angel will squawk like a bird being stepped on which I thought was sort of funny since they both have wings (angels and birds that is).
Overall the game is fun. I'm not sure I would play hour upon hour of it as my hand already has a cramp from it today. But it's a well made game and should entertain many. It's definitely worth taking a peek at if you're in the market for a mobile-based beat 'em up.You can pick up further information from Ojom's page for Charlie's Angels - Hellfire .
