I have played maybe ten levels or more of The Egyptians from developer Handy Games and I'm still not sure what the point is. The game is a somewhat interesting little RTS that has some good features but a total sense of aimlessness.
First off the levels hardly ever change. You get your basic buildings and some spies alert you to the fact that enemies are approaching from X direction. You must then build forces and buildings to defend your land and win the round. And that's pretty much all there is to it.
You do get pyramids, libraries, obelisks and other buildings that serve specific purposes and can be upgraded for better 'technology' which comes in the form of divine favours and more advanced weapons. But really it boils down to wave upon wave of enemies will throw themselves into the fray and hope to destroy your central temple all because of tribal battles having awakened the Lord of Scarabs Khepera.
The Egyptians is totally without motivation. I found myself playing it only on the toilet because, well I had time to kill and needed to get this review out. But other than that I was totally disinterested in this game. It's as if Handy Games was too busy celebrating 8 years in the business to bother with a complete game here. Are they becoming the Uwe Boll of mobile games?
The graphics are OK, nothing special. The units are so small you can't make out any details of them whatsoever aside from being able to tell which is which. The buildings are sufficiently 'Egyptian' and the environments are, surprise surprise, desert areas with an occasional green area (presumably near the Nile).
The sound has three options, Bedouin's Music, Construction and Battle Sounds or nothing. It also has a vibration option for earthquakes when buildings are destroyed. The sounds are pretty good overall.
There is a good variety of units available in the game but I found with well placed troops and a few defensive towers (in the form of the Sphinx) you can forgo even worrying about any of that. This basically means that there is very little strategy in this real-time strategy. Disappointing to say the least. There must be better RTS on the mobile market, so I suggest you find it, or I'll find it and tell you about it.
Overall the game just lacks something to maintain a gamer's interest. The maps hardly change all that much, the gameplay is monotonous and generally I would prefer to stare aimlessly into space than play this for any length of time. This is definitely a game to skip.
