This entry into the mobile gaming marketplace from Polish Developer Gameleons is a step in the right direction. Not only for them but for mobile gaming in general.
This 3D FPS reminds me a lot of Doom in the gameplay and look. In the game you are in control of the Overtaker, a robot who only has two weapons, a stun gun and the ability to take control of a stunned victim.
The story is that in a forgotten corner of Europe a lost group of the Third Reich is still attempting to change the outcome of history, living here I didn't even know it had corners and if it did I think it would be hard to forget one, but I digress. Maybe it's more Wolfenstein than Doom.
Anyway on to the game, The Overtaker 3D. The graphics are classic-feel Doom/Wolfenstein like and I love them. It looks like a lot of time went into making this game look authentic and I think they did a great job.
The music works well enough and while I would have preferred the option to turn it off and have actual sound effects it still played well enough as it was. But it was always a surprise when you came around a corner to find a guard already shooting at you.
From a gameplay perspective they did a great job of making it fun and interesting. But there's one thing lacking in the controls that is necessary in almost every FPS and that's strafe. There's no strafe left or right option in the controls. Instead the 1 and 3 buttons turn you in circles forward left and right and the 7 and 9 do so in reverse. I'm not sure why but the game would be amazingly better if you could strafe.
Now even with that being said I still enjoyed the game. Sure the controls were mildly frustrating from time to time but it was still fun and took some strategy to play successfully. It wasn't just run-and-gun to get the job done. You had to hide and wait and sometimes avoid conflict to have better success. The infrared ability of the robot really comes in handy during those moments and made for the basis of the strategy portion of the game.

Overall, aside from the lack of a strafe command, the game is a solid, fun experience and if you loved FPS
games like Doom and Wolfenstein then you might like to check this game out. Even with the mild frustration level of the controls the fun factor tips it into the positive so I'm rating it a Buy. For more information check out the game's site Gameleons .
