[Review]

When side scroller goes medieval, carrying with it a dark decor of castles combined with a legion of minions, even I start to get hooked.

SoD_240x320_EN_04Soul of Darkness is a challenging game.  You begin the game with your character Kale having his beloved Lydia stolen away.  He then seeks her out encountering several different types of creatures blocking his path.  The storyline does progress nicely and appears to have a twist from what I can gather; I am only about halfway through the game.

The more you kill the more you can upgrade your weapons power, combo, critical hit chance, and magic power.  Eventually you get a second weapon and some other powers.  It takes some thought in order to pick the best weapon for the job and sometimes using it in a particular way will allow you to progress to a secret area of the level.

The fighting is good.  It is a mix of a nice slasher and magic.  The bosses are where the real fun can be at.  So far I have fought a floating eye with hands and a werewolf. Even though I had to start part of the levels over a few times, I found this to SoD_240x320_05be quite and enjoyable joy.

The visuals are up to snuff as well.  The art really sets the mood with the imposing cathedrals and castles.  The zombies are un-dead the bugs squishy and the ... well I do not know what they are but they have floppy wings.

Overall this is a very decent game.  I find it to be addicting and great way to kill some time.  I like the added features of transforming into creatures in order to beat levels.  The level puzzles, though simple, are a great added value to take a break from always fighting.  I think if you pick this one up that you will not be disappointed with what Gameloft has to offer for this title.
