Are you tired of mediocre ports of classic titles tfor your mobile phone? I think the pinnacle of my disappointment came after downloading a SimCity port for my mobile phone. The game was based on the original version of the franchise, and could not have looked any less like the game and still be called SimCity. The ugly graphics and horrible gameplay were not what I was looking for in ports of my favorite retros.
Megacity Empire: New York is not a classic title, but it is essentially a SimCity knock-off done right.
Everything that graphically left me flat about the SimCity mobile game, is made beautiful in Megacity. First, Megacity adapted SimCity 2000's isometric view of the landscape.
Secondly, the animations are first rate - surprising for a game that's been done to death. What is even more surprising is that although the game plays similar to SimCity, it doesn't feel like the same - it's better.
The fifteen scenarios included make for a great quick play experience, but if you like sandbox mode, you'll love the variety. There are over 30 different building types, including New York's most famous monuments and sites: the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty, and Central Park. Couple this with the change of seasons, and you have an polished mobile gaming experience.
You accomplish this with the help of one of three advisers you chose at the beginning of the game. These advisers pop up throughout the game, offering advice: sometimes good, sometimes not so good.
Overall: I Missed My Calling As A City Planner!
The game is just plain good retro fun with a new, polished look. The controls are flawless, and the option to build the last structure is a welcome, time-saving feature.
All in all, its worth the money, and definitely will help you pass the time.
Megacity Empire: New York is intended for all gamers; you can find the game at GameLoft.com.
