Last week I talked about being sick of playing games.  This week I thought that I would talk about getting sick while playing games.

While many of you may have grown up playing 3D games, some of us did not experience them until later in life, when they were first introduced.  The first simulated 3D-game that I remember playing was Wolfenstein 3-D.  The Wolfenstein franchise began as a top down scrolling shooter.  It did not make the jump to 3D until May of 1992, when it ushered in a new era of videogames.

Have you ever grown tired of gaming?  I don’t mean “I am bored of this game”-tired, but simply “I don’t feel like playing videogames for a while”.  No?  Well, let me tell you a story about a time when I did.

It was the early nineties, and I had just lost my job in IT to outsourcing.  I was scrambling to find a new one since I had recently married and our rent was due.  I would spend 10 hours a day pounding the pavement looking for the “right” job: one that would meet my career goals and include an enormous pay check.

It has been a hell of a week here, at the “old fart” house.  Here, in southeastern Wisconsin, we had the pleasure of the coldest temperatures yet this winter.  One might think this would be good for gaming.  After all, with temperatures plummeting to as low as -10 degrees F (-23 degrees C), you would expect gamers to be huddled around the warm glow of their Xbox 360 power supplies or swinging Wii nunchucks just to stay warm.  I know I was huddled around my PC’s power supply working on my resume and playing games, so much so I was getting tired of my favorite FPS.  And since it seemed like I had memorized most of the Internet, I wanted to try a different type of game.

Did you ever have one of “those” days? You know the one that I mean: the day where everything just seems to go wrong.  When you finally get through “one of those days” what do you do?  Most folks I know get home, empty their pockets, take care of a few household tasks and sit down in front of the TV with some “comfort food”.
