Recipe for an "Old Gamer Cake"

Ingredients
1 Part Farm Boy
1 Part IT Geek
2 Parts Serious Gamer
1 Part Middle Income Household

SMB CakePut all of the above ingredients into a suburban setting with a side of ranch style home and mix well.  Let the mixture sit for about 3 years or until the checking account has emptied.  Once the checking account has emptied the 2 parts gamer will resurface due to the lack of sufficient funds to go out and do anything else.  This is the part of the recipe that can be tricky because you want the gamer to rise to the surface without burying the 1 Part Middle Income household which would cause the entire financial cake to fall.  Scrape and gather all of the financial crumbs that are left over and evaluate what is left.  If there is enough for a brand new gaming system, great! Otherwise use these crumbs to piece together a second generation gaming system that will work for most games.

Xbox Cake What I was trying to outline, in a humorous way, was that gaming takes money, sometimes lots of it.  This is one of the main reasons that FarmerDave is a “retro” gamer.  Consoles can be expensive, and some of the newest PC video cards can alone cost even more!

But that’s just it.  The prohibitive cost of current generation gaming, along with the great sense of nostalgia that accompanies retro gaming gives it real appeal.  After all, what’s important is the gaming, and not the amount of money you spend to do it.
