Thursday Grind MMORPG series

SuperGuido came up with MSORPG - Massive Singleplayer Online RPG which is what one might call Adventure Quest today's topic.

When TheGirl reviewed Monster Joust Madness a few weeks ago (see her post here ) she mentioned it was based on the game Adventure Quest. Being me, and the silliness of it all, I had to go check it out.

This is a flash based game, with a bit of narrative, random encounters and basic questing. It's pretty fun playing the turn based combat against things like blecchs, am-bushes and undead ribbers. There is a lot of emphasis on figuring out the right combinations of weapons and armor to use against different monsters.

After your initial character configuration you are dragged through some cut scenes and "oh-noes a random low level moster that no one else in town can handle!" The quests are, so far, along the lines of "go beat monster after monster in a chain to find something for me" variety.

I haven't done much besides level for a few days - get better and more varied armor/weapons and get killed on a couple of quests (there isn't much of a penalty for dying yet - but then again, I'm only level 11 of 100-something). SuperGuido says he has a level 50 Guardian account in this game, so he may have some input. By the way, a guardian account just means that you should always be able to log in to the game. Non-guardian players run the risk of not being able to connect and waiting in a queue for available space during busy times. (It means my account is paid also. It was a birthday present from Warklaw, my university housemate -SuperGuido)

All in all, this is just a fun, browser-based RPG. What it doesn't seem to be, however, is an MMORPG. I haven't seen anyone else in game, nor have I seen where I can team up with another live person (though you can team up with NPCs if you like). So, unless I hear otherwise, I'll probably not write more about it here - but I think I will still log in occasionally when I get the need to rise up and whoop some sea-squirt ass!
